Directions & Lake History/Factoid
Directions: Depending on where you are in Omaha, these lakes are not far away. Cunningham Lake is located north of I-680, off of the 72nd street exit. Standing Bear Lake is located just north of 132nd and Fort Streets. Zorinsky Lake is located just south of Center Street, from 156th Stree, west to 188th Street. Wherspann Lake, Also known as Chalco Hills Rec Area, is located along Giles Road, near 156th Street.

Factoid: The Papio Creek Project consists of Glenn Cunningham, Standing Bear, Zorinsky and Wehrspann Lakes and Dams, located in the Omaha, NE area. Congress authorized the construction of the dams to reduce flooding risks in the Papio Creek watershed after extensive flooding in 1964 and 1965 resulted in loss of life and $5.5 million in property damage. Recreational opportunities, wildlife habitat and improved water quality are additional benefits of the Papio Creek Projects. The Corps cooperates with the City of Omaha and the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District to manage and protect the natural resources of these lakes and surrounding lands.
