Directions & Lake History/Factoid
Directions: The Chatfield Dam and Lake Project is located at the confluence of Plum Creek and the South Platte River just southwest of Denver in Littleton, Colorado. The entrance to the USACE project office is located on the west side of the reservoir on Wadsworth Blvd. 1/3 mile south of the C470 and Wadsworth interchange.

Factoid: Chatfield Project is one of three flood control dams built to protect the Denver metropolitan region from catastrophic floods that have plagued the area for more than 100 years. Situated at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Chatfield project leases the majority of the fee land to the State of Colorado, which runs Chatfield State Park, the City and County of Denver, which subsidizes the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield (dba Chatfield Farms), and the Highlands Ranch Metropolitan District, which operates the Spring Gulch Equestrian Area at Spring Gulch Dam, which is a smaller dam area that protects the right abutment of Chatfield Dam. The areas are intensively used, as Chatfield is one of the two most visited state parks in Colorado. Activities at Chatfield State Park include camping, hiking, biking, boating, marina, swim beach, horse stables, model airplane field, dog off-leash park, hot-air ballon launch site, wildlife watching, and numerous public events and interpretive programs. Denver Botanic Gardens facilities include a working the historical Hildebrand Ranch, nature trails and gardens, an outdoor amphitheater which hosts numerous public concerts and events throughout the year, as well as facilities for weddings and private events.
