Story: Each fall since 1980 the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rend Lake Project, have hosted a white-tailed deer hunt for individuals with disabilities. Usually 25-30 hunters participate. The overall success of the deer hunt is due largely to the assistance of a local high school organization, the Sesser-Valier Outdoorsmans Club. Through a volunteer agreement, the Outdoorsmans Club has helped with the hunt since 1982. The club members provide assistance with the hunt by building deer blinds prior to the season opening, assist the disabled hunters to and from their hunting blinds, and provide a variety of other duties according to the special needs of their assigned hunter.
